President Bola Tinubu has postponed the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting previously set for Wednesday in honor of the late Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, who passed away on Tuesday night. The new meeting date will be announced soon, according to a statement from Tinubu’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.
In the statement, President Tinubu expressed respect for Lt. General Lagbaja's service, noting that he had led the Army since June 19, 2023, and dedicated his efforts to national security until his passing on November 5, 2024.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has rescheduled the Federal Executive Council meeting to a later date in honor of Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, who died on Tuesday night,” the statement read.
As a further mark of respect, the President has ordered flags to be flown at half-mast nationwide for seven days to commemorate the late general’s service and dedication to the nation.
