Hezbollah announced on Wednesday, November 7, that it has mobilized tens of thousands of fighters prepared to confront Israel, stressing that recent U.S. election outcomes will not alter its stance on the ongoing conflict in Lebanon.
In a televised address, Hezbollah’s leader stated that no area within Israel would be “off-limits” from attacks as clashes intensified. Israeli officials reported approximately 120 projectiles launched from Lebanon into Israeli territory on Wednesday alone, prompting the Israeli military to strike Hezbollah strongholds in southern Beirut after issuing evacuation warnings.
The current conflict follows Israel's decision in late September to shift its military focus northward from Gaza to Lebanon’s border in response to Hezbollah's ongoing cross-border attacks, initiated last year in solidarity with Hamas after the October 7, 2023 assault on Israel. This shift has prolonged hostilities, with the war in Lebanon resulting in nearly 2,000 casualties according to Lebanese health ministry data.
In his speech, Hezbollah’s leader, Naim Qassem, confirmed the group’s readiness, stating, “We have tens of thousands of trained resistance combatants” prepared for the escalating conflict. Qassem’s address, broadcast following the announcement of Donald Trump’s presidential victory, was reportedly pre-recorded.
Efforts to negotiate a ceasefire in Gaza following Hamas’s attack have yet to yield progress, leaving tensions high in both Gaza and Lebanon.
