Prince Harry’s confidential immigration records may soon be disclosed to the public, following the re-election of President Donald Trump, who has previously expressed that he would not protect the Duke of Sussex due to his actions toward the British royal family. This development comes after the Heritage Foundation’s long-running legal battle to access Harry’s visa application documents, which was initially blocked by the outgoing administration.
In an interview with DailyMail, Nile Gardiner, Director of The Heritage Foundation’s Margaret Thatcher Center for Freedom, indicated that there is now a strong likelihood that the think tank will succeed in its appeal. The Heritage Foundation has been pushing for the release of Harry's immigration records, particularly after the Duke admitted to recreational drug use in his 2023 memoir—a disclosure that, according to the think tank, might have made him ineligible for entry to the United States without proper disclosure on his immigration application.
Despite a ruling in September that kept the records private, the Heritage Foundation is appealing the decision. Gardiner suggested that with Trump’s re-election, the new administration, particularly a Republican-controlled Congress, could push for the release of Harry’s files. He further argued that making the records public would align with the rule of law and ensure accountability, adding that it would be in the public’s best interest for the Trump administration to release the Duke’s immigration files.
Gardiner pointed out that the Biden administration had "bent over backwards" to shield Prince Harry, but that this protection would likely end following Trump’s inauguration. He believes there is a clear public interest in seeing the records, stating that if Harry had nothing to hide, he should support their release.
The tensions between Trump and Harry have been well-documented, dating back to the 2016 election when Trump called Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, "nasty" after she criticized him. Trump has since made public statements suggesting that if re-elected, he would not offer any protection to Harry, accusing the Duke of "betraying the Queen" and declaring that Harry would "be on his own" under his administration.
With the growing influence of the Republican Party, particularly with its control over Congress, calls for the release of Harry’s immigration records may intensify in the coming months, potentially leading to the public exposure of the Duke’s visa application details within the next year.
