Queen Camilla Cancels Public Engagements Due to Chest Infection, Hopes to Attend Remembrance Events

Buckingham Palace announced that Queen Camilla, 77, has canceled several scheduled engagements this week due to a chest infection, following doctors' advice to rest. The Queen remains hopeful, however, that she will recover in time for the upcoming Remembrance events this weekend.

An official statement from the Palace reads, “Her Majesty The Queen is currently unwell with a chest infection, for which her doctors have advised a short period of rest. With great regret, Her Majesty has therefore had to withdraw from her engagements for this week, but she very much hopes to be recovered in time to attend this weekend’s Remembrance events as normal.”

Queen Camilla's illness means she will miss the annual opening of the Field of Remembrance at Westminster Abbey on Thursday, an event she has regularly attended on behalf of the royal family. In her absence, the Duchess of Gloucester will represent the Queen at the service, where tributes are placed in honor of fallen service members. Camilla will also forgo a reception at Buckingham Palace on Thursday evening, which King Charles will host to honor Olympic and Paralympic athletes.

Following a recent overseas tour with King Charles to Australia, Samoa, and a stopover in India, palace insiders described her illness as a “relatively minor bug” and assured there is “no cause for alarm.” The Queen is expected to attend the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on Saturday and the national service at the Cenotaph in Whitehall on Sunday.

Additionally, Queen Camilla recently participated in a documentary on domestic violence awareness, set to air next week, reflecting her ongoing commitment to public service.

Meanwhile, King Charles, who was diagnosed with cancer in February, paused his treatment during their overseas trip and is expected to resume care upon their return to the UK.
