Carmen Bryan, known for her past involvement with Jay-Z, has weighed in on the recent allegations against the rapper. On Instagram, the 52-year-old shared her perspective amid a lawsuit accusing Jay-Z of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl in 2000, an allegation he has denied, calling it a "blackmail attempt."
Bryan posted a cryptic message stating, "These days people don't defend what is right, they defend who they like! And that's why we call you 'groupie'." She also pointed to lyrics from Kanye West's song Monster, in which Jay-Z describes violent imagery, including, "I r@pe and pillage your village, women and children."
Jay-Z, now 55, faces a civil lawsuit over claims that the alleged assault occurred at a Video Music Awards afterparty in the presence of Sean "Diddy" Combs and an unnamed female celebrity. Both Jay-Z and Combs have denied the allegations.
Bryan’s connection to Jay-Z dates back to a nine-year affair that overlapped with her relationship with rapper Nas, the father of her daughter, Destiny. Bryan disclosed in her 2016 memoir, It's No Secret, that the affair began in the mid-1990s and ended in 2004 after Jay-Z referenced her in the song Supa Ugly, which she described as the moment she "lost all respect" for him.
In past interviews, Bryan has revealed personal details of her relationship with Jay-Z, including a miscarriage during their affair. Speaking to VLAD TV in 2017, she said, "I believe I was three months... It wasn’t anything crazy, it wasn’t planned." She also shared that she informed Jay-Z of the pregnancy only after the miscarriage.
This controversy adds to the mounting scrutiny surrounding Jay-Z, who is the first celebrity named alongside Diddy in a series of lawsuits. Both artists maintain their innocence, denying all allegations.
