Bernie Littman, 100, and Marjorie Fiterman, 102, have been officially recognized as the world’s oldest newlyweds by Guinness World Records. The couple, who reside in a senior living facility in Philadelphia, tied the knot on May 19 after a nine-year relationship, with a combined age of 202 years and 271 days.
Both Bernie and Marjorie had previously been married for over six decades before losing their spouses. When they moved to the same floor of a retirement community, neither expected to find love again. Their relationship blossomed through shared meals, community activities, and their mutual love for life.
The couple’s connection began at a costume party where they met for the first time. Bernie fondly recalls that the spark was instant, and their first date coincided with the birth of one of his great-granddaughters.
Interestingly, the two attended the University of Pennsylvania at the same time many years ago but never crossed paths. Bernie pursued engineering, while Marjorie studied education.
The ceremony, held in the same senior living facility where they met, was an intimate celebration attended by four generations of Bernie’s family. Loved ones held the chuppah, a traditional Jewish wedding canopy, as Bernie and Marjorie were escorted to the altar in their wheelchairs.
Adam Wohlberg, who officiated the wedding, tailored his remarks to reflect the couple’s unique journey. “What you know and understand about each other is exactly what the future holds,” he said during his speech. “And what you have determined you love about each other—those things are not about to change.”
Bernie attributes his longevity and joy to reading and staying informed, while Marjorie credits buttermilk as her secret.
Their record-breaking union has captivated people worldwide, serving as a reminder that love can be found at any age and that life’s most beautiful moments often come when least expected.
