The NYPD has released new images of the suspect wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside a Midtown Manhattan hotel on Wednesday, December 4.
Surveillance footage captured clear images of the suspect, showing his face for the first time. In one photo, the suspect appears to smile, with a black face mask lowered to his chin. He is wearing a dark hoodie, the same outfit authorities believe he wore during the attack.
Thompson, 50, was gunned down outside the Hilton hotel on Sixth Avenue. The suspect reportedly fired multiple shots at the executive as he approached the hotel entrance. Law enforcement sources revealed that the suspect had been staying at a youth hostel on the Upper West Side before the incident.
Security cameras recorded the gunman walking toward the Hilton about 15 minutes before the shooting. He appeared to be speaking on the phone during this time, further fueling speculation about his motives and connections.
Authorities also shared images of the suspect purchasing items at a Starbucks near West 56th Street and Sixth Avenue shortly before the shooting. The suspect, wearing a black mask at the time, was seen buying a bottle of water and two PowerBars.
The police have since recovered one of the water bottles and the suspect’s cellphone. Investigators are working to extract DNA evidence from these items and fingerprints from unspent ammunition recovered at the scene.
The NYPD and Crime Stoppers are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the suspect’s arrest.
