Deji Adeyanju Labels PDP a "Dead Party" Over Expulsion of Ikenga Ugochinyere

Prominent human rights activist and lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, has criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), calling it a "dead party" following its decision to expel Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ideato North/Ideato South Federal Constituency in Imo State.

Adeyanju's comments came after the PDP announced Ugochinyere's expulsion for alleged gross indiscipline, insubordination, and anti-party activities. In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, December 7, Adeyanju expressed disbelief at the party's action while noting that Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), remains a member of the PDP.

Ikenga Ugochinyere, the courageous one, has been expelled for anti-party activities by APC moles in charge of PDP, but Wike is still a member of the PDP. The jokes write themselves daily. The PDP is a dead party awaiting funeral rites,” Adeyanju wrote.

Ugochinyere's expulsion was outlined in a letter dated December 5, 2024, from the PDP Ideato Local Government Area (LGA) chapter. The letter, signed by LGA Chairman Hon. ThankGod Okeke and Secretary Onyebuchi Umeh, was addressed to the party's state chairman. The expulsion was based on findings by the party’s disciplinary committee, which investigated allegations of misconduct in accordance with Section 57 (1-4) of the PDP constitution (2017, as amended).

The decision has sparked widespread reactions, with some accusing the PDP of inconsistency and mismanagement. Critics, including Adeyanju, argue that the party's internal conflicts and controversial decisions have undermined its credibility and cohesion.

Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, a well-known spokesman for the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP), has yet to issue a statement on his expulsion. Meanwhile, observers continue to monitor the PDP's handling of internal disputes, which many believe could further affect its political standing.
