U.S. President-elect Donald Trump pledged to enact sweeping measures targeting transgender policies on his first day in office. Speaking at the AmericaFest conference in Phoenix, Arizona, on Sunday, Trump outlined a controversial agenda that includes reversing several LGBTQ+ policies, emphasizing his commitment to conservative values.
Trump declared that his administration would recognize only two genders, stating, “There will only be male and female in America.” He promised to issue executive orders banning gender-affirming care for minors, removing transgender individuals from military service, and eliminating discussions of transgender topics in schools.
Additionally, Trump vowed to restrict transgender participation in women’s sports, asserting, “It will be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female.”
Transgender rights have become a contentious issue in U.S. politics, with Democratic-led and Republican-led states pursuing drastically different approaches. While some states have expanded gender-affirming healthcare and protections for transgender individuals, others have enacted restrictions on medical care and educational content.
Last week, Congress approved a defense budget that includes provisions blocking funding for certain gender-affirming care for the transgender children of military personnel, highlighting the increasing polarization on the issue.
In his address, Trump painted a grim picture of the Biden administration, describing the past four years as marked by “failure, incompetence, and national decline.” He promised a brighter future under his leadership, stating, “On January 20, the United States will turn the page forever... and inaugurate a new era of peace, prosperity, and national greatness.”
Trump also pledged to resolve major international conflicts, vowing to end the war in Ukraine, stabilize the Middle East, and prevent global conflict. “I promise to stop World War III,” he assured his audience.
Trump’s remarks have drawn praise from conservative groups while intensifying criticism from LGBTQ+ advocates and progressive organizations. His proposed policies could significantly impact transgender individuals and the broader LGBTQ+ community, setting the stage for heated debates as his presidency begins.
As Republicans prepare to control both Congress and the White House, Trump’s promises signal a sharp shift in policy direction that could reshape the nation’s social and cultural landscape.
