The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has urged air travelers to increase their awareness of potential challenges they might face while navigating airports. This appeal was made by Michael Achimugu, the NCAA’s Head of Consumer Protection, during a road walk event held on Saturday, December 7, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Speaking at the event, Achimugu emphasized the significance of passenger education, especially during the busy travel period marked by increased flight disruptions and passenger complaints. He highlighted the need for both passengers and airlines to understand their rights and responsibilities.
“We are in the peak travel season for aviation, and we’ve seen numerous flight disruptions and complaints from passengers,” Achimugu stated. “Our responsibility at the NCAA is to sensitize passengers because many of these complaints stem from limited knowledge about their rights and the responsibilities they have as air travelers.”
Achimugu stressed that the NCAA’s role is to ensure a balance between protecting passengers and supporting airlines. “It’s crucial that passengers are well-informed to handle situations like flight delays or cancellations effectively, while also understanding the operational challenges airlines may face,” he added.
As part of its ongoing efforts, the NCAA is intensifying its public awareness campaigns to address concerns and provide passengers with the tools they need for a smoother travel experience. This initiative aims to reduce conflicts and enhance cooperation between passengers and airline operators during the holiday rush.
The authority’s focus on education reflects its commitment to fostering a better understanding of aviation processes and ensuring that air travel remains safe, efficient, and fair for all stakeholders.
