Afenifere Youth Coalition Condemns Sowore for Attacks on IGP and Other Public Officials

The Afenifere Youth Coalition has strongly criticized former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, for what they describe as persistent attacks on Yoruba public officials, particularly Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun.

Sowore, a well-known activist, was recently arrested by the Nigeria Police following his claims that the IGP’s continued tenure was unlawful. He was later arraigned in a Federal High Court in Abuja and granted bail in the sum of N10 million.

In response to these developments, Rasak Oladosu, Director of Strategy, and Samuel Isijola, President of the coalition, condemned what they referred to as Sowore’s pattern of defamation, blackmail, and cyberbullying. They called for legal action to ensure he is held accountable for his statements.

Speaking at a press conference in Lagos, the coalition accused Sowore of exploiting social media to spread misinformation and provoke unrest. They described him as a “failed politician and habitual agitator” whose activism is driven more by personal controversy than genuine national interest.

According to the coalition, Sowore’s bid for the presidency under AAC revealed a lack of leadership capacity, as evidenced by his failure to gain substantial electoral support.

They urged Nigerians not to be misled by his public antics, asserting that his primary concern is self-interest rather than national progress. Addressing his supporters, they cautioned against being manipulated by an individual whose motives, they claim, are purely selfish.

The coalition further emphasized that social media is not a substitute for the rule of law and called on the judiciary and security agencies to allow due legal processes to unfold.

“Nigeria is greater than any one individual,” they stated, “and no single person’s ambitions should be allowed to derail the nation’s progress.”
