The Lagos State Magistrate Court in Sabo, Yaba, has cleared Nigerian singer Abdulazeez Fashola, known as Naira Marley, along with music promoter Samson Balogun Eletu, also called Sam Larry, and Owodunni Ibrahim, known as Primeboy, of any involvement in the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
Magistrate Ejiro Kubenje, in delivering the ruling, referenced legal advice from the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), which stated that the three individuals had no case to answer regarding Mohbad’s passing.
Additionally, Mohbad’s former manager, Opere Babatunde, was also exonerated of any criminal liability.
However, the DPP determined that the auxiliary nurse who administered treatment to Mohbad before his death, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, and one of the late singer’s friends, Ayobami Sadiq, would face charges for reckless and negligent conduct under Section 251 (e) of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015. Their trial is set to proceed at the Magistrate Court.
Mohbad passed away under controversial circumstances on September 12, 2023, leading to widespread public concern and calls for justice. Prior to his death, he had expressed fears about threats to his life. Following his passing, videos and social media discussions emerged, alleging that he had faced harassment and intimidation from various individuals, including Naira Marley and Sam Larry.
In response to public outcry, the Lagos State Police Command arrested several individuals, including Naira Marley, Sam Larry, and Primeboy, while awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death.
With the recent ruling clearing their names, questions continue to arise about whether justice has been fully served. The decision to prosecute only the auxiliary nurse and Mohbad’s friend has sparked further debate on whether all responsible parties have been held accountable.
