“Chicago Bears Legend Charles ‘Peanut’ Tillman Quits FBI Over Moral Objections to Immigration Orders”

Chicago Bears legend Charles “Peanut” Tillman has quit his job at the FBI, citing moral objections to the agency’s immigration crackdown under the Trump administration.

Tillman, 44, a two-time Pro Bowler and retired NFL star, explained on The Pivot Podcast that he refused orders from superiors to pursue individuals in ways that conflicted with his conscience. He said, “Some of the things they’re doing I personally didn’t agree with, [such as] immigration… It didn’t sit right with my conscience.”

He clarified that, unlike military service, FBI agents have the ability to refuse orders they find morally objectionable. Tillman also noted that his successful NFL career gave him financial freedom to leave the bureau, something not all colleagues could do.

Tillman joined the FBI in 2018 after retiring from professional football, motivated by a desire to serve the public. His career with the Chicago Bears (2003–2015) was distinguished: he holds franchise records for defensive touchdowns, forced fumbles, interception return yards, and interception return touchdowns, and shares the NFL record for most forced fumbles in a season.

Reflecting on his departure, Tillman said, “At the end of the day, I want to be on the right side of history when it’s all said and done.”
