Former Trump administration officials are raising red flags after the former president’s latest calls to prosecute political rivals.
Miles Taylor — the ex-Homeland Security official who once authored the “Anonymous” op-ed critical of Trump — published an interview Sunday with Sue Gordon, Trump’s former Deputy Director of National Intelligence. In it, Gordon warned that the U.S. has crossed a dangerous “control gate” on the path toward authoritarian rule.
“When Donald Trump’s own former spy chief — someone who served under both Republican and Democratic presidents — says we’ve crossed the line into democratic decay, we should pay attention,” Taylor wrote.
Gordon explained that authoritarian regimes often weaponize law selectively rather than abandon it entirely. “The first thing is… selectively applying it for their own purposes,” she said, calling this week “one of the hardest” of her career watching U.S. institutions falter.
Taylor added that the country is in “grave danger,” while Gordon urged Americans not to disengage: “Fight the fight that America needs fought. Don’t shy away from participating.”
The remarks follow Trump’s attacks on former FBI Director James Comey and other critics, raising alarms among even his past national security allies.
