“Marjorie Taylor Greene Breaks With Trump Over Epstein Files: ‘I Don’t Work for You’”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), once one of Donald Trump’s fiercest defenders in Congress, is now openly challenging the former president over his handling of documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

According to a report in The New York Times, Greene became furious after a Trump aide suggested that supporting legislation to release Epstein-related files would be considered a “very hostile act.”

Greene says she wasted no time in pushing back, phoning a senior White House official to make her position clear.

“I told them, ‘You didn’t get me elected. I do not work for you; I work for my district,’” Greene recalled.

She continued, “We aren’t supposed to just be whipped on our votes because they’re telling us what to do … or saying ‘We’ll primary you,’ or that we won’t get invited to the White House events.”

Asked how she reacts to threats from Trump’s orbit, Greene was blunt: “Me personally? I don’t care … I’m like, ‘[Expletive] you.’”

The shift is striking. Elected in 2020 as a far-right outsider, Greene eventually aligned herself with GOP leadership under then-Speaker Kevin McCarthy. But that era is over. Today, Greene operates as a combative independent force — openly clashing with Speaker Mike Johnson over Ukraine aid, and now with Trump himself over transparency on Epstein.

Greene insists she hasn’t abandoned Trump altogether, still calling him “my favorite president.” But she says she’s no longer bound by loyalty when she feels he’s being misled or straying from core MAGA principles.

“It changes when someone goes into office,” she explained. “Any president — they’re in a cone of information that they’re being provided. … If I can move President Trump out of there, I think he’s on the right page. I think it’s a matter of who is talking in his ear.”

Despite her continued admiration for Trump, Greene frames her independence as her greatest strength. “I didn’t get elected with a President Trump endorsement … It felt really bad at the time, but honestly it’s been the best thing for me. I get to be very independent.”

The Times notes that Greene’s new posture highlights cracks within the MAGA movement itself. Once known for unwavering loyalty to Trump, she now represents a faction of Republicans willing to challenge him — even on one of his most sensitive political flashpoints.
