A Pennsylvania man charged with murdering one family member now faces additional charges in connection with the deaths of three relatives, including a 1-year-old child.
Berks County District Attorney John Adams announced that 61-year-old Jose Luis Rodriguez has been charged with two additional counts of first-degree murder for the killings of Geraldina Peguero-Mancebo, 30, and her son Jayden. Rodriguez was already facing charges in the death of Peguero-Mancebo’s husband, 33-year-old Junior Cabrera-Colon, who was found dead on September 13 near Baer Park in Reading.
According to police, Rodriguez admitted to shooting Peguero-Mancebo in the back of the head and then dumping her body after she refused to leave her husband. He allegedly admitted to drowning Jayden in a lake while the infant was still alive, then directing police to the murder weapon, a 9 mm handgun that had been reported “lost in shipping” by UPS earlier this year.
Investigators allege that Rodriguez had been providing financial support to Peguero-Mancebo, including rent money, and became “infuriated” when she resisted leaving her husband. Surveillance and cellphone data reportedly placed Rodriguez and Peguero-Mancebo at multiple locations in the days leading up to the murders.
Rodriguez remains in Berks County Jail without bond and faces a lengthy list of charges, including three counts of first-degree murder, three counts of third-degree murder, abuse of a corpse, possession of an instrument of crime, tampering with evidence, and carrying a firearm without a license. He is scheduled to appear in court on October 3.
The tragedy leaves behind three surviving children, ages 8, 10, and 13. A GoFundMe page has been established to help return the family’s bodies to their native Dominican Republic, highlighting the devastating human cost of this violent crime.
