California Authorities Searching for Murder Suspect Accidentally Released from Jail

Authorities in California are scrambling to locate a 20-year-old murder suspect who was accidentally released from custody last week.

The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Isaiah Jamon Andrews, of Kent, Washington, was mistakenly freed from the Martinez Detention Facility on October 22, despite being wanted on multiple serious charges — including a homicide warrant from Washington state.

Andrews was reportedly being held on local charges, a juvenile warrant from Sacramento, and the out-of-state murder warrant tied to a fatal shooting in Seattle earlier this year. After staff realized their error, deputies immediately launched a search of the surrounding area, but Andrews had already disappeared.

The sheriff’s office said an internal investigation is underway to determine how the mistake occurred. Meanwhile, a multi-agency manhunt involving the U.S. Marshals Service is ongoing.

Seattle police say Andrews is wanted in connection with the killing of a 20-year-old man in the parking lot of a Seattle hotel. He was arrested in California following a vehicle pursuit just days before his mistaken release and was awaiting extradition to King County, Washington at the time.

Authorities are urging the public not to approach Andrews if seen and to immediately contact law enforcement.
