Enzo Zidane, the son of football legend Zinedine Zidane, has retired from professional football at the age of 29, citing boredom with the sport. The former midfielder, who began his youth career at Juventus in 2000, made the decision to hang up his boots, according to a report by AS.
Despite his football pedigree, Enzo only made one senior appearance for Real Madrid, where he scored with his first touch in a 5-1 Copa del Rey win against Ebro. After years of playing professionally, he has now chosen to step away from the game to focus on spending more time with his wife and three children.
Reflecting on his football career, Enzo admitted that the pressure of being Zidane’s son was a constant challenge. "I’ve faced this pressure since I was young, and it will always be there. People compare you, criticise you, and expect more because of who your father is," he shared.
He expressed how he tried to distance himself from those expectations, focusing instead on personal growth. "The most important thing is that my family is proud of me. I just wanted to grow up as Enzo and not let the weight of my father’s name define my entire career," he said.
Enzo’s time at Real Madrid, where his father is a celebrated figure, was a significant part of his journey. However, he sought opportunities elsewhere, stating, "After learning from Madrid’s academy and first team, I wanted to experience new challenges and pursue my own dreams as a player."
His retirement brings an end to a career that, despite its challenges, has been filled with learning and personal growth.
