Peter Obi Tells Governor Soludo: “We’re Not in the Same League”

Tensions between two prominent Anambra politicians — Peter Obi and Governor Charles Soludo — have once again surfaced, following remarks in which Obi appeared to mock the governor’s leadership.

Speaking during a recent public engagement, Obi, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate and former governor of Anambra State, advised Soludo to focus on governance rather than political rivalry.

In a pointed comparison, Obi said he and Soludo are operating on different levels of political experience and achievement.

“Governor Soludo is operating at a Division 1 level — a level I left 13 years ago,” Obi said. “I am now in the Champions League.”

The statement has sparked conversations across political circles and social media, with supporters of both men trading jabs online.

While Governor Soludo has not yet responded to Obi’s latest comments, observers say the rivalry between the two Anambra-born leaders reflects deeper political tensions within the state — particularly between the Labour Party and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Soludo’s platform.

Peter Obi served as governor of Anambra State from 2006 to 2014 and has since gained national prominence as a reform-minded politician emphasizing transparency and fiscal prudence. Soludo, a former Central Bank governor, succeeded him in political prominence years later, often drawing comparisons to Obi’s tenure.

Despite their shared background, both leaders continue to clash over governance priorities and political vision for Anambra and Nigeria at large.
