Rep. Riley Moore Backs Trump’s Threats to Nigeria, Slams China’s Criticism

Washington, D.C. — Rep. Riley M. Moore (R-WV) has voiced strong support for President Donald Trump’s warning to Nigeria, defending the administration’s stance on Christian persecution and rejecting China’s condemnation of U.S. policy.

In a statement posted to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Moore wrote:

“President Trump is absolutely right to defend our brothers and sisters in Christ who are suffering horrific persecution, and even martyrdom, for their faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. China will not dictate our foreign policy to us, and we will not be lectured to by a Communist autocracy that recently arrested 30 Christian pastors for their faith and throws ethnic minorities in concentration camps.”

Moore’s comments came hours after Beijing rebuked Washington over Trump’s October 31 declaration naming Nigeria a “country of particular concern” for alleged persecution of Christians. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said China “firmly supports the Nigerian government” and opposes “any country’s interference in other countries’ internal affairs under the pretext of religion and human rights.”

Trump’s threat to suspend U.S. aid and consider military action against Nigeria has drawn both domestic and international criticism, with many calling it a dangerous escalation. But Moore — one of the most vocal Christian conservatives in Congress — praised Trump’s position as a defense of global religious freedom.

The congressman also used the opportunity to criticize Beijing’s human rights record, referencing China’s crackdowns on underground churches and the detention of Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang, which the U.S. has labeled genocide.

Moore’s statement reflects a growing divide between Washington and Beijing over religion and human rights, as well as rising tensions following Trump’s recent remarks about possible intervention in Nigeria.
