Zohran Mamdani Names All-Female Transition Team Ahead of Mayoral Takeover

New York City — Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani announced an all-female transition team on Wednesday, just hours after securing a historic victory in New York City’s mayoral race. The move highlights Mamdani’s commitment to diversity and progressive leadership, though several members bring decades of experience in city and federal government.

The team includes veterans from prior mayoral administrations and the Biden administration:

  • Rohit Khan, former FTC chair under President Biden, known for pursuing antitrust cases against tech giants like Amazon and Meta and advocating to lower prescription drug costs. Khan has clashed with billionaires including Elon Musk and Reid Hoffman and resigned earlier this year after President Donald Trump attempted to remove her from office.

  • Sharon Hartzog, co-chair and director of the transition, previously served as Deputy Mayor for Health and Human Services under Bill de Blasio and oversaw the city’s massive municipal budget as director of the Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget.

  • Leopold, a former senior Mamdani campaign adviser and de Blasio administration alum, will serve as executive director of the transition team.

  • Adriane Torres-Springer, former first deputy mayor under Mayor Eric Adams, has also held roles as deputy mayor for housing, economic development, and workforce, and commissioner of the Department of Housing Preservation & Development. She resigned this year following Adams’ federal indictment, which was later dismissed.

  • Bonilla, president and CEO of United Way of New York City, previously held several city government positions across the de Blasio and Bloomberg administrations, including leadership on racial equity initiatives and immigrant services.

Mamdani’s selection of experienced women for the transition team signals an approach that blends progressive ideals with institutional expertise, as the incoming mayor prepares to implement his ambitious agenda.
