15 Injured in Multi-Vehicle Collision Under Ojota Interchange Bridge Lagos

About 15 passengers were injured in a multiple-vehicle collision under the Ojota Interchange Bridge on Friday, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).

LASEMA reported that the accident involved a BRT bus with registration number EXY-167XY, an articulated truck with an unknown registration number, and an 18-seater commercial bus with registration number JJJ-439YG.

Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA's Permanent Secretary, confirmed the incident in a statement, noting that it was reported via the state’s toll-free emergency numbers, 767 and 112. The LASEMA Response Team from the Command and Control Centre, C3, Alausa, swiftly responded to the scene.

"Upon arrival, it was discovered that the accident involved a BRT bus, an articulated truck laden with a 40-feet container, and an 18-seater commercial bus," Oke-Osanyintolu said. "The articulated truck, while heading towards Ketu, suddenly lost control, skidded off its lane, and collided with the BRT bus heading towards Ojota from the opposite direction."

The impact caused the BRT bus to veer into the service lane and collide with the commercial bus. Although 15 people were injured, there were no critical injuries or fatalities. The BRT bus sustained significant damage to the front and rear, and the tractor head of the truck was also damaged.

The injured victims were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment, with four receiving immediate attention from LASEMA’s pre-hospital care team and the Lagos State Ambulance Service at the scene.

LASEMA, in collaboration with Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) officials, managed traffic control and diverted vehicles into the BRT lane to clear the road. The articulated truck was towed to the LASTMA yard in Oshodi, the BRT bus was moved to the BRT yard in Ojota, and the commercial bus was driven off by its owner.

The road has since been cleared for vehicular activities.
