Autopsy Results Suggest Possible Drug Reaction in Death of Nigerian Rapper Mohbad

Nearly a year after the death of Nigerian rapper and singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad, the autopsy report has finally provided insights into the possible cause of his demise.

The autopsy, conducted at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, revealed that while the exact cause of death remains undetermined, there is a possibility that a drug reaction played a role. The report, which went viral yesterday, indicated no significant findings from post-mortem and toxicology tests.

Samples of Mohbad's gastric content, blood, bone marrow, liver, kidney, and lung were analyzed for toxicology. The report noted: “Anti-histamines are medicines used to treat symptoms of allergies. They are also used to treat a variety of other conditions such as stomach problems, colds, and anxiety, among others."

The body was not subjected to an autopsy or embalmed before burial on the second day after death. Following an order for exhumation, Mohbad’s body was exhumed on September 21, 2023, eight days after burial. The autopsy revealed moderate to marked decomposition of organs, and apart from a superficial injury on the right forearm, no significant findings were noted.

The toxicology results showed the presence of Diphenhydramine, an antihistamine, but not in a fatal concentration. Other analyses were unremarkable. The report stated: "In determining fatal anaphylactic shock, blood samples need to be taken as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, this was prevented or made impossible by the burial of the deceased on the second day. In light of the foregoing, the cause of death could not be ascertained. However, the possibility of a fatal anaphylactic shock (drug reaction) could be considered in view of the absence of any significant post-mortem and toxicology findings."

Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, under mysterious circumstances at the age of 27 and was buried the next day. His death sparked widespread controversy, with fans and celebrities demanding justice and accusing his former boss, Naira Marley, and Sam Larry of being involved. This led the Lagos State Police Command to form a 13-man Special Investigation Team to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
