Bandit Attacks in Niger State: Over Two Dozen Kidnapped and Livestock Stolen

Over the weekend, the Mashegu and Shiroro Local Government Areas in Niger State were the scenes of violent bandit attacks. On Sunday and Monday, bandits targeted these areas, resulting in multiple abductions and livestock thefts.

On Sunday, the bandits descended upon the village of Adogo Malam, abducting six residents. The violence continued on Monday when another group of bandits invaded the Tunga Kawo community, located three kilometers from Mashegu. During this attack, 20 people were abducted, and numerous cows were rustled.

As of now, there has been no contact from the bandits regarding ransom demands or negotiations, and the whereabouts of the abducted individuals remain unknown.

Malam Hussain Ibrahim, the Public Relations Officer of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), confirmed these incidents. He stated, "The agency has received reports of ongoing bandit activities in the Shiroro and Mashegu LGAs. On Sunday, six people were kidnapped in Adogo Malam village in Mashegu, and on Monday, no fewer than 20 people were taken from the Tunga Kawo community in Erena, Shiroro. Additionally, hundreds of cows were stolen."

These attacks highlight the persistent insecurity plaguing the region, affecting both human lives and livelihoods.
