Early Morning Blaze Destroys Two Shops in Afor Nnobi Market, Anambra

In the wee hours of Wednesday morning, flames engulfed two shops situated at the bustling Afor Nnobi Market, adjacent to Nnobi Roundabout, within the precincts of Idemili South Local Government Area in Anambra State.

The conflagration reportedly razed a significant inventory of merchandise, including household essentials and apparel, valued at millions of Naira.

The confirmation of the incident was relayed by the Chief Fire Officer of the Anambra Fire Service during a briefing with journalists in Onitsha later that day.

According to Chiketa, the distress call reached the Anambra Fire Service at 7:52 am, alerting them to the inferno raging at Afor Market.

He stated, "Our firemen and firefighting apparatus stationed at Nnewi Fire Station promptly responded to the call, swiftly mobilizing to the scene and successfully curtailing the fire's spread."

Thankfully, no casualties were reported, although the blaze left destruction in its wake, impacting approximately two shops.

Preliminary investigations by authorities pointed to a potential power surge in one of the affected shops as the likely cause of the fire outbreak.

The Chief Fire Officer reiterated the importance of fire safety measures, emphasizing that while fire can be a lethal force, preventive measures could significantly mitigate its risks.

He further emphasized the crucial role of prompt reporting in facilitating swift response times from emergency services, underscoring that timely intervention is often instrumental in containing such incidents.
