The Edo State Government has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the State Police Command to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the rape and murder of 22-year-old Miss Adekolure Idowu Glory, a recent graduate of the University of Benin (UNIBEN).

The tragic incident occurred in Iyowa, a community along the Benin-Lagos expressway, Benin City, in Ovia North-East Local Government Area, on Thursday, June 13, 2024.

Governor Godwin Obaseki strongly condemned the heinous crime and directed the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, to take immediate action.

In a statement by Commissioner for Communication and Orientation Chris Nehikhare, the government expressed profound shock and sadness over the incident.

Governor Obaseki has instructed the Commissioner of Police to identify and apprehend the individuals behind this reprehensible act within the next seven days.

According to Nehikhare, the victim was reportedly returning home after processing her clearance when she was subjected to torture, raped, and murdered by unidentified assailants. Her lifeless body was found near her mother's residence.
