Inspector General of Police Condemns Violence in Rivers State Leading to Tragic Deaths

The recent eruption of violence in Rivers State, resulting in the unfortunate deaths of Police Inspector David Mgbada and vigilante operative Samuel Nwigwe, has drawn strong condemnation from Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

The clash, which occurred on Tuesday, stemmed from disputes over the tenure of the 23 local government chairmen, escalating into a confrontation between supporters of Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

In response, the IGP, through a statement by Force Public Relations Officer, CP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, directed Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, to intensify security measures throughout the state.

Furthermore, the IGP mandated thorough investigations into the deaths of the police officer and the vigilante operative, as well as the wider outbreak of violence.

Operatives of the Force Intelligence Response Team (IRT) were specifically deployed to aid the Rivers State Command in apprehending those responsible for the killings.

The statement emphasized the IGP's warning to individuals and groups involved in senseless attacks and killings of police officers and security personnel nationwide, stating that they will face the full force of the law.
