House Committee Report Recommends Aircraft Acquisition for President and Vice-President

The House of Representatives Committee on National Security and Intelligence has recommended to the Federal Government the acquisition of new aircraft for President Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima.

This recommendation was made in a report released by the committee after investigating the status of the aircraft in the presidential air fleet.

"The committee strongly believes that, given the delicate nature of the Nigerian federation and acknowledging the potential consequences of any technical or operational shortcomings in the presidential air fleet, it is in the nation's best interest to procure two additional aircraft as suggested. This move would not only be financially prudent in the long term but also ensure the provision of suitable, comfortable, and safe transportation befitting the status and duties of the president and vice-president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria," the committee report stated.

In May, the House of Representatives directed the committee to conduct a thorough examination of the aircraft in the presidential fleet to assess their airworthiness and technical condition.

This directive followed a motion presented by Satomi Ahmed, chairman of the House Committee, in response to reports of malfunctioning aircraft in the presidential air fleet. These reports led to the President resorting to a chartered plane from the Netherlands to Saudi Arabia during a recent overseas trip.
