The International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) officially announced the qualification of Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna and Algeria’s Lynda Loghraibi for the singles event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in France. This confirmation came through a statement released by the ITTF on Friday, representing Africa, the Americas, Asia, and Europe.
As the Paris 2024 Olympic Games draw near, the ITTF expressed excitement about the progress in the qualification process. With less than 50 days remaining until the games, the recent world ranking update revealed eight athletes securing their participation based on continental quotas allocated by the World Ranking system.
In the Men’s Singles category, Quadri Aruna from Nigeria and Nicolas Burgos from Chile represented Africa and the Americas, respectively. The list also included Kirill Gerassimenko from Kazakhstan (Asia) and Alvaro Robles from Spain (Europe), who had previously qualified in the Mixed Doubles event.
For the Women’s Singles competition, Lynda Loghraibi from Algeria (Africa), Adriana Diaz from Puerto Rico (Americas), and Zhou Jingyi from Singapore (Asia) secured their spots. Yang Xiaoxin from Monaco (Europe) also earned the opportunity to pursue their Olympic dreams in Paris.
The ITTF noted that the qualification process would enter its final stages, with only one more world ranking update scheduled before the final roster for Paris is confirmed. A total of 86 men and 86 women are expected to compete in the singles events at the Olympic Games.
Furthermore, ITTF announced the appointment of three African umpires – Akram Ben Attia from Tunisia, Es-Sayed Elrawdy from Egypt, and Ronald Mugwanya from Uganda – for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
