Pennsylvania Woman Drowns After Tragic Fall at Glacier National Park

A 26-year-old woman from Pennsylvania tragically drowned after falling into the water above St. Mary's Falls in Glacier National Park, Montana. Federal officials reported on Monday that the woman slipped and was swept over the waterfall on the park's east side.

"According to witnesses, she was washed over the falls and trapped underwater for several minutes," stated the National Park Service. "Bystanders managed to pull her from the water below the falls and administered CPR until emergency responders arrived."

Park rangers, an ambulance crew, and a rescue helicopter responded to the scene around 6:20 pm, but despite their efforts to resuscitate her, she never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead at approximately 7:20 pm.

An investigation into the woman's death is ongoing, and a state medical examiner will conduct an autopsy. The National Park Service is in the process of notifying her family and has not released her name to the public.

"The park extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of the woman and asks that the public respect their privacy," officials said.

This incident is part of a series of recent hiking mishaps across the United States.

In another recent incident, a man survived for 10 days in the Santa Cruz Mountains in California by eating wild berries after getting lost during a hike. The man reported that wildfires had destroyed key landmarks, making it difficult for him to navigate.

Earlier this year, the body of a 22-year-old hiker was found on California’s Mount Baldy following a weeklong search amid heavy snow and winter conditions.

Last September, a 61-year-old hiker died after falling off a waterfall outlook in North Carolina. In the same month, a 55-year-old man died while attempting an 18-mile hike from the south rim to the north rim of the Grand Canyon during an intense heatwave, highlighting the dangers of strenuous hikes under extreme conditions.
