The Impact of Mothers on Nigeria's Social Landscape: A Perspective from K-Solo

Nigerian music producer Solomon Oyeniyi, commonly known as K-Solo, has attributed the proliferation of internet fraud and online sex marketing in Nigeria to women, placing the blame on mothers for enabling their children's involvement in these harmful activities.

In a recent interview, the beatmaker expressed his belief that mothers contribute to these vices by failing to instill proper values in their children. He also criticized celebrities for negatively influencing the youth.

K-Solo remarked, “In Nigeria, hooking up has become as common as ordering food. It's almost normalized, with some even justifying it by citing its prevalence abroad. However, there should be regulations in place to govern such practices.

"Much of this behavior stems from underground activities. The primary enablers from the family side are the women, particularly the mothers. I hate to say it, but mothers are often complicit. I recall an incident when my car broke down, and I encountered a young girl, around 16 or 17 years old, heading out. Her mother instructed her in Yoruba to bring something back. I questioned the mother about her daughter's source of income, as she seemed too well-dressed for a typical office job. The mother couldn't provide a satisfactory answer.

"Let me be clear; when Yahoo fraud emerged in Nigeria, it was often the mothers who collected the illicit proceeds from the bank. This isn't just hearsay; it's a reality that has unfolded over time.

"When mothers and female advocates actively denounce these vices, we'll witness significant changes. Likewise, when female celebrities, instead of flaunting their lavish lifestyles online, share their honest struggles and hard work, it will inspire young girls to pursue more meaningful paths."
