"Think for Yourself": Naira Marley's Message to Marlians

Controversial Nigerian singer Azeez Adeshina Fashola, popularly known as Naira Marley, has advised his fans not to worry about others' opinions. In a series of posts on his social media on Wednesday, the founder of Marlian Records encouraged his followers to think for themselves.

Naira Marley emphasized that other people’s thoughts should not concern them. "You have a brain and mind of your own. Use it, and reach your own decisions," he wrote. "As a Marlian, what people in the world think of you is really none of your business."

His posts generated mixed reactions online. Some users questioned if anyone still identifies as a “Marlian,” while others speculated whether his conscience might be troubling him.

In March, Naira Marley had shared a message asserting his resilience and warning his detractors that there is plenty more to provoke them.

Known for his music blending Afrobeats and hip-hop, Marley sings in English, Pidgin, and Yoruba. He leads a controversial fan base known as “Marlians.”

The singer faced significant controversy following the death of his former label signee, Mohbad, on September 12 under mysterious circumstances. The incident sparked widespread calls for justice on social media. In October, Marley was arrested over allegations of involvement in Mohbad's death but was released on bail in November after more than five weeks in detention.
