Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) Rejects Participation in Upcoming Protest

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has officially distanced itself from the national protest scheduled for August 1, 2024. Emeka Rollas, the guild's national president, announced this decision following a national congress that brought together representatives from over 20 state chapters.

Rollas emphasized that the guild’s stance is rooted in its role as peace ambassadors and societal role models. Instead of street protests, AGN members will continue to use their films as platforms to address and critique societal issues. The guild's resolution reflects a commitment to promoting political and economic progress through non-disruptive means.

In his statement, Rollas highlighted the importance of unity and dedication in navigating Nigeria’s current challenges. He also urged all guild members to refrain from participating in the protest, citing concerns over potential disruptions to the daily lives of Nigerians. While acknowledging the right to peaceful protest, Rollas noted that past demonstrations have often been marred by violence.
