At Least 11 Injured After Projectiles Fired from Lebanon into Israeli-Occupied Golan Heights

On Saturday, at least 11 individuals sustained injuries following an incident in which projectiles were reportedly launched from Lebanon into the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights, according to Israeli officials.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reported that sirens were activated in the Majdal Shams area when a projectile crossed from Lebanon, resulting in a hit and multiple injuries. The IDF noted that approximately 30 projectiles were detected crossing from Lebanese territory into Israel.

The IDF has attributed the attack to Hezbollah, the Iran-backed Lebanese militant group, asserting that civilians, including children, were among the injured. However, Hezbollah has denied any involvement, dismissing the allegations as unfounded.

A spokesperson for Magen David Adom (MDA) revealed that five people are in critical condition and six are in serious condition in Majdal Shams based on initial assessments. Efforts are ongoing to locate and assist additional victims. MDA has deployed a large team to the scene, where paramedics are treating individuals aged between 10 and 20 years. Some victims are being treated on-site, while others have been transported to local clinics. Emergency services, including evacuation helicopters and ambulances, have been dispatched.

Idan Avshalom, a senior medic with MDA, described the scene as chaotic, with injuries and destruction evident on a soccer field. He reported that medical teams have been actively triaging the wounded and coordinating with local clinics.

Israeli police have indicated that munitions have impacted multiple locations in the northern Golan Heights. Authorities are securing the area and searching for any remaining hazards to ensure public safety.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been briefed on the situation and is conducting a security consultation with his military secretary, General Roman Gofman. He is also scheduled to meet with defense leaders later in the day to assess the security situation.

While the IDF has pointed to Hezbollah as responsible for the attack, the militant group has refuted these claims, stating on Telegram that it has no connection to the incident and labeling the accusations as false.

The Golan Heights, seized from Syria during the 1967 Six-Day War and subsequently annexed by Israel in 1981, remains a contentious area under international law. The region is home to approximately 53,000 residents, including Israeli settlers, Syrian Druze, and a small Alawite population.
