Nigerian comedian Bright Okpocha, known as Basketmouth, recently clarified why he made comments about Wizkid while acknowledging the social media frenzy around Davido's wedding.
During Davido and Chioma's wedding on June 25, Basketmouth expressed frustration over the difficulty in promoting his Canadian tour due to the overwhelming attention on the wedding. He noted that even Wizkid's social media activities were overshadowed by the wedding.
This remark did not sit well with Wizkid's fans, who threatened to "cancel" Basketmouth.
Addressing the incident on "Backstage Banter with Isi Ijewere" during the Toronto stop of his Canadian tour, Basketmouth explained that his comments about Wizkid were intended as a "marketing technique."
"Wizkid is my guy... that was a marketing technique," Basketmouth said. "But I knew it was going to be edgy. I knew it was going to hit people. I knew they were going to get upset and they did exactly what I wanted them to do. It worked."
