Wiz Khalifa Sentenced in Romania Following 2024 Music Festival Incident

Wiz Khalifa has been sentenced to nine months in prison by a Romanian court, according to local media reports, following a legal case stemming from a July 2024 music festival appearance in the country.

Romanian outlets Agerpres and CanCan reported that the Constanța Court of Appeal issued the sentence on Thursday, Dec. 18, finding the rapper guilty of possession of illegal substances for personal use. The ruling is reported to be final.

The case dates back to Khalifa’s performance at the Beach Please! Festival in July 2024, where authorities alleged he possessed and consumed cannabis during the event. Khalifa, an American citizen, was briefly taken into custody at the time and later released. It remains unclear whether Romanian authorities will seek further legal action related to enforcement of the sentence.

Earlier this year, Khalifa was fined 3,600 lei (approximately $829) in connection with the same offense. According to reports, the appeals court later determined that a custodial sentence was warranted, resulting in the nine-month prison term.

Law enforcement officials previously confirmed that an individual attending the festival was charged with illegal possession of prohibited substances. Authorities stated that more than 18 grams of cannabis were recovered and that the substance was allegedly consumed during the performance.

Social media footage from the event appeared to show Khalifa smoking onstage before being escorted away by officials. At the time, Romanian authorities emphasized that the charges were based on national drug laws that apply regardless of a person’s nationality or public profile.

Following the incident, Khalifa addressed the situation in a social media post, stating that he did not intend to show disrespect to Romania and expressing appreciation for how authorities handled the matter.

Representatives for Wiz Khalifa have been contacted for comment.
