The controversy began when Onanuga accused Obi and his supporters of orchestrating planned nationwide protests against the Tinubu administration, attributed to the ongoing economic difficulties in Nigeria. In response, Obi's legal representative, Alex Ejesieme, sent a formal notice to Onanuga, insisting that he retract the allegations and issue a public apology within 72 hours, or face a lawsuit for damages.
Onanuga has now responded to these threats via his official X account, stating, “I am still awaiting the formal letter from Peter Obi’s lawyer concerning the N5 billion lawsuit and the apology demand. To Obi and his legal team: I am unperturbed by any legal action. We will address this matter in court.”
The dispute highlights the growing tensions in Nigerian politics, particularly surrounding allegations of incitement and the legitimacy of public protests against government policies.
