Joe Biden’s physician recently met with a prominent neurologist, Dr. Kevin Cannard, at the White House, according to reports. This comes after Biden ruled out taking an independent cognitive test following his poor performance in a recent debate with Donald Trump.
Dr. Cannard, a Parkinson’s disease expert from Walter Reed Medical Center, has visited the White House residence clinic eight times since August 2023, most frequently meeting with Megan Nasworthy, a liaison between Walter Reed and the White House. The January 17 meeting with Dr. Kevin O’Connor, Biden’s longtime doctor, has raised questions about Biden's cognitive health.
Biden has consistently dismissed the need for a cognitive test, rejecting the idea during his term and not receiving one during his three annual physical exams. According to the Washington Post, Dr. O’Connor has never recommended a cognitive test for Biden.
In a recent ABC News interview, Biden stated he had no reason to take a cognitive test, emphasizing his capability. However, this issue has been contentious, with critics questioning his mental fitness, especially after his debate performance and subsequent verbal errors.
Former White House doctor and current Republican congressman Ronny Jackson has called for Biden to undergo a cognitive exam, accusing Dr. O’Connor and Biden’s family of covering up any cognitive issues. Jackson claimed that O’Connor, trusted by the Bidens, has been complicit in this alleged cover-up.
The White House initially denied but later confirmed that Biden had seen a doctor post-debate, attributing his performance to factors like a cold and jet-lag. Despite these concerns, Biden maintains that his memory and cognitive abilities are intact.
