On Sunday, July 28, 2024, Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) will return for its ninth season, marking its first appearance since the All-Stars edition. This season promises to be unlike any other, with several exciting changes and twists that are set to elevate the drama and excitement.
In a groundbreaking development, this season will introduce a new format where contestants will enter the BBNaija house in pairs for the first time in the show's history. Unlike previous seasons where pairs were formed after the housemates had already entered, this year’s contestants were auditioned and selected as duos.
Dr. Busola Tejumola, Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice, explained, "This year, we asked for people to come with their friends, besties, family members, wives, husbands, and partners, to enter the show together as a pair. That was the selection criteria." Fans are bracing for an unprecedented level of interaction and competition as these pairs navigate the house dynamics together.
Adding another layer of intrigue, the selection process for the Head of House (HoH) will undergo a major change. Traditionally determined by games and tasks, this season’s HoH will be chosen through a ballot system. "Now restyled as the HoH Ballot, the process to select the first HoH will hold at 10:00 am on Monday, July 29, 2024," announced Dr. Tejumola. Following the ballot, viewers can look forward to the Custodian Lock-In, Immunity Challenge, and nominations.
In a surprising move, the prize money for this season has been reduced. The grand prize is set at N100 million, which is a decrease from the N120 million awarded last season. This reduction has sparked speculation among fans, with some suggesting it might be related to recent controversies involving a past winner's claims of unpaid prize money. Despite this, several sponsors, including Guinness as the gold sponsor, are supporting this year’s edition.
The theme for Season 9 remains under wraps, with Dr. Tejumola hinting that it may not be revealed until the premiere. “Everyone curious about the theme should watch out for the premiere on Sunday, July 28. The show holds lots of fun, vibes, emotion, drama, dynamics and intriguing twists,” she said. In contrast to previous seasons where themes were disclosed well in advance, this year’s approach keeps fans guessing.
As anticipation builds, viewers can tune in to the premiere of Big Brother Naija Season 9 across all Africa Magic channels on Sunday, July 28, 2024, and follow the unfolding drama on DStv Channel 198 and GOtv Channel 49.
