In a tragic incident, at least 13 individuals have reportedly lost their lives following an assault by suspected herdsmen in Olegomachi community of Agatu Local Government Area, Benue State. The attackers, armed with sophisticated weapons, unleashed terror yesterday evening, setting homes ablaze, looting properties, and taking livestock.
According to Phillip Ebenyakwu, the caretaker chairman of Agatu Council, the assailants, believed to be Fulani herdsmen, carried out the onslaught, leaving devastation in their wake. Ebenyakwu confirmed the grim toll, stating, "They killed 13 people and burned down seven houses. Properties, including animals, were also stolen."
Local authorities, including the police and DSS, have been notified of the incident, with efforts underway to secure the area and investigate the heinous attack.
