A three-storey building collapsed in the Ifite area of Awka, the capital of Anambra State, as reported by residents of the neighborhood. The building, which was still under construction, collapsed in an area dominated by Nnamdi Azikiwe University student hostels.
Uchenna Chukwuma, a resident who shared a video of the incident, confirmed that there were no casualties in the collapse.
Building collapses have become a recurring issue in Anambra State recently. Just prior to this incident, a two-storey building collapsed in a market in Amawbia, trapping several vegetable sellers who were fortunately rescued. Unfortunately, four people lost their lives in that incident.
Other notable collapses include a five-floor centenary building owned by Dennis Memorial Grammar School and a block of stalls in Ochanja Market owned by the Anambra State government.
Governor Prof Chukwuma Soludo had previously established a panel to investigate these collapses before this latest incident occurred.
