Rapper Cardi B has achieved a new milestone, surpassing Nicki Minaj to become the highest-certified female rapper in the United States. According to the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), Cardi B has sold 107 million certified units, outpacing Minaj, who has 106 million certified units.
While Minaj has accumulated more overall record sales, many of her hits were as a featured artist, which are not credited to her individual tally on the RIAA site.
In other news, Alicia Keys has celebrated her first diamond single in the U.S. The 2009 track “Empire State of Mind,” a collaboration with JAY-Z, has been certified Diamond by the RIAA for selling 10 million units. This milestone also marks JAY-Z’s third diamond single, alongside “N****s In Paris” with Kanye West and “Umbrella” with Rihanna.
Across the Atlantic, Eminem has received the Brit Billion Award for becoming the best-selling American rapper in the UK, amassing 7 billion career streams. The BRIT Awards shared the news on Twitter, highlighting Eminem's achievement with a photo of him holding the award.
