Chef Smith Arrested for Falsifying Guinness World Record Claim

A Ghanaian chef, Ebenezer Smith, also known as Chef Smith, has been apprehended for falsely claiming a Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon by an individual.

Smith declared himself the new world record holder with an alleged 820-hour 25-minute cook-a-thon, spanning from February 1, 2024, to March 6, 2024, during a press conference on Tuesday and on social media.

However, Alina Polianskaya, the Public Relations Executive for Guinness World Records, dismissed Smith's claim in an interview with the BBC, stating, “No, this is completely untrue. He does not hold the GWR title, and that certificate is not ours."

The actual record for the longest cooking marathon (individual) stands at 119 hours 57 minutes 16 seconds, achieved by Alan Fisher of Ireland in Matsue, Shimane, Japan, from September 28 to October 3, 2023.

Irish chef Alan Fisher currently holds the legitimate Guinness World Record for the longest continuous cooking session, surpassing previous records, including that of Nigerian chef Hilda Baci.
