Ollie Watkins, the 28-year-old England and Aston Villa striker, has announced his engagement to Ellie Alderson. Watkins shared the exciting news on Instagram, posting a series of photos with Alderson and captioning them, “Future wifey!! It was only right.”
Watkins and Alderson, who have been together since 2018, are parents to a daughter and a son.
The engagement announcement follows a standout month for Watkins, highlighted by his pivotal goal for England in the Euro 2024 semifinal against the Netherlands, which propelled the Three Lions into the final.
Aston Villa, where Watkins has played since 2020, along with teammates Morgan Rogers and John McGinn, offered their congratulations to the couple.
Reflecting on his memorable goal against the Netherlands on July 11, Watkins described the moment as unfolding in “slow motion” and expressed his desire to fully appreciate the experience.
“I just wanted to soak it all in because it doesn’t happen often,” Watkins remarked, acknowledging the effort that led to his crucial goal.
England captain Harry Kane also commended Watkins, stating, “Ollie has been waiting patiently, and what he did was outstanding. He deserves it.” Despite Watkins’ contributions, England fell to Spain 2-1 in the final.
