Federal Lawmaker Abdul Malik Zubairu Organizes Mass Wedding for 105 Orphaned Girls in Zamfara State

Abdul Malik Zubairu, a federal lawmaker representing Maru/Bungudu Federal Constituency in Zamfara State, organized a mass wedding for 105 girls whose parents were killed by bandits. The ceremony took place on Saturday, July 6, 2024, in Bungudu town, the headquarters of Bungudu Local Government Area.

The 105 brides were chosen from the 21 political wards of the Bungudu/Maru Federal Constituency. During the event, Zubairu highlighted the support provided to the beneficiaries, which included household items such as beds, mattresses, wardrobes, bed sheets, and pillows.

“We paid N100,000 as dowry for each of the 105 brides. During our campaign, we promised to support families affected by banditry. Alhamdulillah, today, I am fulfilling one of my campaign promises by sponsoring these marriages,” Zubairu stated.

He mentioned that most of the brides had lost their parents to banditry, while a few were selected from less privileged families. In addition to the dowry, each groom received N100,000, and each bride received N50,000 to start a business of their choice.

Abdulrahman Kawu-Sumaila, the Chairman of the occasion and a Kano senator, praised Zubairu for his generosity. He urged the community to appreciate, support, and pray for the lawmaker. He also advised the couples to be patient with each other, emphasizing that marriage is part of Ibadat (faith), and announced a personal donation of N20,000 to each couple.

The event saw the attendance of traditional rulers, Islamic scholars, community leaders, politicians, and other notable dignitaries from the constituency.
