Female Prison Officer Appears in Court After Caught in Sex Scandal with Inmate at Wandsworth Prison

A female prison officer, Linda De Sousa Abreu, 30, was caught having sex with an inmate at Wandsworth Prison and has now appeared in court.

She was charged after a video of the explicit act went viral online. De Sousa Abreu appeared at Uxbridge Magistrates' Court wearing all grey, speaking only to confirm her name, address, and date of birth. She concealed her face and carried a large suitcase as she left the court.

The Metropolitan Police launched an urgent investigation after officers were informed of the video, which was reportedly filmed inside HMP Wandsworth in south London between June 26 and 28.

De Sousa Abreu was arrested at Heathrow Airport, where she was set to board a flight to Madrid. Prosecutor Niamh McDonagh informed the court that De Sousa Abreu, a Portuguese national, had relatives in Madrid and possessed a Portuguese passport, which was seized by police.

Defense lawyer Gayathri Yogarajah stated that De Sousa Abreu had informed HMP Wandsworth of her travel plans, which were then relayed to Scotland Yard.

De Sousa Abreu was granted conditional bail and is scheduled for a plea and case management hearing on July 29 at Isleworth Crown Court. She must stay at the address provided in court, surrender her Portuguese passport to the police, and refrain from obtaining any international travel documents. Additionally, she must hand over her Portuguese identity card and is forbidden from entering any UK port. She will be electronically monitored between 9 am and 7 pm.

A Prison Service spokesman commented, "Staff corruption is not tolerated, and the former prison officer allegedly featured in this video has been reported to the police. It would be inappropriate to comment further while they investigate."
