Femi Otedola Speaks Out on Dangote's Dispute with Nigerian Officials

Femi Otedola has addressed the ongoing dispute between Aliko Dangote and officials from Nigeria's petroleum ministry. In a statement shared on his official X account, Otedola defended Dangote's remarkable achievements and contributions to Nigeria’s industrial landscape.

Otedola praised Dangote for building the world's largest single-train refinery, located in Lagos, and for his ownership of the second-largest sugar refinery and the largest cement factory, both situated in Nigeria. Additionally, Dangote’s newly established fertilizer plant in Lagos, which is set to surpass Qatar’s largest, reflects his commitment to global exports.

"Aliko Dangote is a titan that God created specially for mankind," Otedola stated. He highlighted Dangote’s role as Nigeria's largest private sector employer and a major taxpayer, emphasizing that his contributions surpass those of the top banks combined. Otedola noted that without Dangote’s initiatives, Nigeria would still be importing cement. He also acknowledged Dangote’s role in building critical infrastructure, including major roads like the Apapa-Oshodi-Owonrosoki Express Road, Wharf Road, and the Obajana-Kabba Road.

Otedola drew parallels between Dangote and industrial pioneers in the U.S., such as Cornelius Vanderbilt and John D. Rockefeller, who played pivotal roles in building America's industrial sector. He argued that these historic figures left a lasting legacy through their contributions, supported by government recognition and assistance.

Similarly, he pointed out that modern tech giants like Microsoft and Tesla received substantial government support, such as the $465 million loan from the U.S. Department of Energy in 2010 to Tesla. This funding was intended to support the development of electric vehicles and related technologies.

Otedola also cited examples from other countries, including India, where government support has significantly benefited business leaders like Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani, and emerging markets like Vietnam, South Africa, Brazil, and China, where government backing has accelerated industrial and technological growth.

In his concluding remarks, Otedola stressed the importance of supporting local champions like Dangote, who have broken boundaries in global business and industry. He called for continued support and recognition of such visionaries as crucial for Nigeria’s national development and economic independence.
