Frank Itom Opens Up About Therapy Journey Amid Sexuality Struggles

Nigerian dancer and content creator Frank Ileogben, popularly known as Frank Itom, shared how struggles with his sexuality led him to seek therapy in 2020. In a recent interview on the WithChude podcast, Itom recounted that issues began when his ex-girlfriend questioned his sexuality due to his friendships with people she perceived as gay.

Itom avoided discussing his sexuality with her until it started affecting his mental health, causing paranoia. Encouraged by a friend, he sought therapy and felt significant improvement after just three sessions.

"I went to therapy in 2020 because of my conflicted self-image. My ex-girlfriend made several suggestions that made me uncomfortable," Itom explained. "She would ask about my friends, implying they were gay, and suggested that I could confide in her. Her constant questioning made me paranoid."

Itom further revealed that these conversations led him to doubt himself, even as he maintained that he wasn't interested in men. "At some point, I started hearing voices in my head, questioning my own sexuality. I realized I wasn't confident anymore, so I decided to go to therapy. I was slowly withdrawing from everything I knew at the time."

By April 2020, after starting therapy in January, Itom felt much better, though he experienced another breakdown later that year. "Therapy helped me a lot. My therapist was from the company I worked for, and they had been emphasizing the importance of therapy. By the third session, I felt like I had moved past it."

Through therapy, Itom found clarity and confidence, helping him put the doubts and paranoia behind him.
