Police in Lagos have arrested a couple over an alleged attempt to sell their two-year-old son to fund their relocation to Canada. The couple was apprehended at Isolo General Hospital, where they had declared their intention to sell their child. Officers from the Isolo Division swiftly responded to the alert about this disturbing plan.
Lagos Police Command spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest on Thursday, stating that the couple, aged 28 and 22, were detained on Tuesday while attempting to sell their son. According to Hundeyin, the couple revealed their intentions at the hospital around 2:45 p.m., prompting immediate action by the police.
"Upon receiving the information, operatives from the station moved quickly to the hospital where they were about to sell their child. The baby, who is two years old, has been rescued," Hundeyin said. During interrogation, the couple confessed that their plan was to sell the baby to enable the man to travel to Canada in search of better opportunities. "The investigation is ongoing," he added.
