The Initiative for Better and Brighter Nigeria (IBBN) has urged President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action to reduce government spending and address systemic issues within key sectors. In a recent briefing held in Jos, Plateau State, Prophet Isa El-Buba, the group’s Convener, outlined several recommendations for the president.
IBBN is calling for significant reductions in expenditure at all levels of government, including the presidency, governors, and ministers. The group emphasized the need to cut spending on allowances, as well as on the acquisition of jets and vehicles.
In addition to fiscal adjustments, IBBN has demanded the dismissal of underperforming ministers and the appointment of a new team dedicated to advancing Nigeria's progress. The group specifically highlighted the need for leadership changes at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), accusing the current management of contributing to systemic problems in the industry.
The group also urged President Tinubu to address pressing economic concerns by reversing recent electricity tariff increases and supporting the deployment of CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) conversion kits at NNPCL filling stations. They proposed this as a measure to reduce transportation costs and ease economic pressures on Nigerians.
Furthermore, IBBN is advocating for short-term diesel subsidies to lower the cost of goods transportation. The group emphasized the urgency of these measures and encouraged the president to act swiftly before the anticipated nationwide protest.
The recommendations reflect IBBN’s call for a renewed focus on efficient governance and economic relief for Nigerian citizens.
